The Community
While Muskoka’s natural outdoor beauty is what first attracts visitors, people stay to enjoy the many attractions that are available indoors as well. Bigwin is conveniently located by car or boat less than 15 Km from the Towns of Baysville and Dorset, with the larger communities of Bracebridge and Huntsville each being a 35 Km drive.
Along with hospitals and modern shopping facilities the area also boast world-class performing arts festivals, luxury spas, fine dining and carriage trade shopping. Cottagers seeking to learn more about the area can visit museums, heritage villages and workshops hosted by local artisans. Event calendars are always brimming with activities in Muskoka with programs that appeal to visitors of every age.
Air Access
The Muskoka Airport is conveniently located to Bigwin Island. This modern facility operates seven days a week, 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, with a 6,000 ft, asphalt runway. The airport also provides official Canada Customs Airport of entry services.
The closest major international airport is Toronto Pearson International Airport. The largest and busiest airport in Canada, it is located approximately a two hour drive from subject property and receives flights from virtually every major city in the world.
Float plane access is also popular at Bigwin, which allows owners direct access to their property, as well there is a centrally located heliport planned for the Island, which will facilitate charter helicopter transportation and provide medical services.
Golf
Bigwin Island Golf Club (BIGC), which has achieved enormous stature in the world of golf, underpins the services, experience and friendly family atmosphere on the Island. BIGC is a private club, owned by 300 equity members. The golf course is one of the finest in Canada…very playable, yet breathtakingly beautiful and well conditioned. The course is an 18 hole championship layout, designed by renowned Canadian Architect, Doug Carrick. Features include a par 72, with up to 7,200 yards, 4 tee decks and generous landing areas, with bent grass tees, greens and fairways.
Special Island Features
Along with the obvious secure, tranquil environment that comes with being on a private secure island, the island also boasts over 80 acres of natural protected environmental lands, which is home to deer and many other native species in the area.
The Island’s also boasts an extremely unique low population of mosquitoes and blackflies. The Island’s “turtle back” shape limits the amount of standing and flowing water, thus reducing and almost eliminating the insects that are synonymous with the famous “Muskoka Wave”.
